Last week four representatives from Mater Boni Consilii Academy attended a RC Education Board Development Conference in Illinois. Head of School, Mr. Aguiar, Chaplain Fr. Avila, Trustee, Mrs. Barden, and Parent Advisory Council rep, Mrs. AtLee joined eleven (11) RC Schools from North America for a few days focused on board-level engagement, governance practices, structure, and leadership within Regnum Christi schools.
In addition to the conference sessions, the team also had the opportunity to visit two Regnum Christi schools in Illinois (Everest Academy and East Lake Academy). These visits offered an inspiring look at how other RC schools cultivate strong Catholic identity, uphold high academic standards, and foster collaboration between boards, faculty, and families. Overall, the experience offered both inspiration and practical strategies to help MBCA continue developing strong leadership structures that support our mission and values: “To educate, To form, To serve.”
Conference highlights included several outstanding keynote presentations. Fr. Shawn Aaron, LC, Territorial Director of the Legionaries of Christ and Chair of the RC Education Board, spoke on Leadership and Mission, offering a compelling reflection on how Catholic school leaders are called to serve with integrity, prayer, and a deep commitment to Christ’s mission. Dr. David Sorkin, President of the Academy of Holy Angels, and Mr. Chris Martin, Program Director of Board Development & Executive Leadership at the Roche Center for Catholic Education, led several engaging workshops on Building Your Board, emphasizing strategies for recruiting, forming, and empowering trustees and committees. Margaret Matthews, Executive Director of RC Education, shared practical tools and frameworks in her session on Impact Measurement, highlighting how schools can evaluate their growth not only in academic achievement but also in faith formation and community life.
The group returned energized and inspired, eager to bring back the knowledge, vision, and best practices gleaned from this experience. These insights will play an important role as MBCA continues to strengthen its leadership structures and advance toward accreditation with RC Education.
